TO FEED the homeless children and their families during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Cebu, Carmen Copper Corp. sent sacks of rice and other food supplies to the Abtanan Sa Kaluoy (ASK), a center that takes care of street children in Cebu City.

Due to the crisis brought about by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, ASK has temporarily suspended its other activities and shifted its focus on continuously feeding the street children and their families in select critical areas within Metro Cebu.

Volunteer ASK staff members have been preparing meals good for 150 to 200 persons every day, distributing the meals to the street children and their families who are hungry and exposed since the ECQ was implemented last March to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

“Our selfless volunteers take care of purchasing, cooking, packing lunch meals to be delivered daily to the street dwelling children and their families. Our goal is to continue to feed the children and their families in this very challenging situation. At the moment, we are running low on donated goods,” said Carmen C. San Jose, ASK deputy executive director.

To augment their supplies and ensure ASK can continue with its cause, Carmen Copper sent sacks of packs of instant noodles, canned food, processed meat and cereal drink to the center last April 24.

ASK executive director Rev. Fr. Pat Ornopia thanked Carmen Copper, its management and employees for sending the needed supplies.

“The food sustenance of our street kids and family will be augmented for many days. May God bless your good hearts and continue to keep you all safe,” Ornopia said in a text message.

ASK is an activity center that serves as a refuge for street children where they can take a shower, eat, learn and play. The center, located within the compound of the St. Joseph the Patriarch Parish in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City opened in January 2019.
